IMS golf team plays

CHANUTE — Iola Middle School’s Ponies finished fifth at Thursday’s Royster Middle School Invitational golf tournament at Chanute.
Although the Ponies didn’t have a medalist, IMS golf coach Dennis Nevin said he was pleased with the way his team played.
“It was a great day for golf. Scores were really good up and down the tournament,” Nevin said.
John Hutton led the Ponies with a 58 for the nine-hole tournament. Trey Wilson shot a 61 followed by Joe Myrick with a 66. Justin Baker had a 69 and Ben Myrick had an 81.
In the girls’ division, Iola’s April Stierwalt carded a 74 for sixth.
Coffeyville won the tournament with a 183. Royster was second with a 185. Rickabaugh of Anderson County was top medalist with a 36.
Iola goes to Jayhawk-Linn Monday and Anderson County Wednesday.
