IHS golf takes seventh

INDEPENDENCE — Iola High’s Mustangs finished seventh in a field of 11 at Thursday’s Independence High Invitational golf tournament.
Chanute won the 18-hole tournament with a 319. Pittsburg-Colgan was second wat 337 followed by Fort Scott at 341, Independence at 347, Coffeyville at 352 and Pittsburg at 355.
Iola shot a 356 as a team. Parsons was eighth at 366 followed by Girard at 376, Labette County at 382 and Columbus at 441.
Seth Walden and Austin Ellis led the Mustangs with 88s. Walden had rounds of 43 and 45 while A. Ellis shot 44 and 44.
Chase Ellis posted an 89 (47-42) and Bryce Burris had a 91 (49-42). Alec Peterson carded a 99 (48-51).
Chanute’s Jeremy Gant was top medalist with a 72 and Charlie Sloan of Colgan was second with a 74.
Iola travels to Pittsburg Tuesday for a Southeast Kansas League tournament.
