IHS golfers tend to SEK business

CHANUTE — Iola High’s Mustangs finished seventh as a team in Monday’s Chanute High golf tournament, a Southeast Kansas League designated event.
The Mustangs had a team score for the 18-hole tournament of 354. Cha-nute shot a 313 to win its own tournament.
Fort Scott was second at 338, one stroke ahead of Coffeyville, 339. Independence placed fourth with a 340 followed by Parsons at 344, Pittsburg at 347 and Iola. Labette County finished eighth at 369 and Columbus ninth at 372.
Jeremy Gant of Chanute was top medalist with a 75. Gant holds a slim one-stroke lead overall in the SEK standings at 221 after three tournaments. Cole Murrin of Fort Scott is second a 222, after finishing seventh at Fort Scott Monday.
Austin Ellis and Bryce Burris led the Mustangs Monday as both shot 87s with rounds of 43 and 44. Chase Ellis carded an 89 (44-45) and Chris Harrington tallied a 91 (43-48).
Alec Peterson finished with a 97 (49-48) and Nick Jacobs had a 103 (55-48).
After three league designated tournaments, Austin Ellis stands at 21st in the league ranks with a 262, along with three others. Burris has a 264 for 25th and Chase Ellis is 29th at 266.
The final regular season golf tournament was to have been Wednesday at Coffeyville, also a SEK designated tournament. The tournament was moved to Friday, starting at 9 a.m.
