HUMBOLDT — Racing season at Humboldt Speedway is just a couple of weeks away.
The 2009 racing season opens March 14 with the USMTS Modified Special at the local dirt track. Kenny Wallace, NASCAR driver, returns with the USMTS tour event to race at Humboldt.
Also running that night will be B-Mod and factory stock classes for points at the track. Racing begins at 6 p.m. that Saturday.
Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with hot laps starting at 5 p.m.
Admission for the special event will be $15 for adults and $5 for children ages 6-12. Pit passes are $30.
If it rains that Saturday, the races will go to the next day.
Regular season races begin March 21. Races will be on Saturday through March then switch to Friday nights in April for the rest of the season.
To get ready for the season, Humboldt Speedway’s two play days for drivers are coming up. This Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. is the first one.
Another play day is set for March 7, noon to 4 p.m., and if it rained out, they’ll go to Sunday at the same time.
The Speedway has a new tower and more bleachers for the fans. Ron and Rhenda Whitworth, owners of the Speedway, have hauled in dirt and worked on the track throughout the offseason.
