Humboldt boys defeat Eureka

EUREKA — With seven available players for Friday’s Tri-Valley League game , Humboldt High’s Cubs found a way to win. The Cubs defeated host Eureka High’s Tornadoes 40-31.
“We did a good job with seven players in a rough and ugly game,” said David Taylor, Humboldt head coach.
“We did a lot of good things in the first half like breaking their press for easy layups.”
The Cubs improved to 2-11 in TVL play and 2-17 overall. Humboldt wraps up the regular season at Fredonia Tuesday.
Humboldt pushed out to a 15-7 lead in the first quarter. The Cubs were in front 19-14 at halftime and had a 7-4 scoring edge in the third stanza.
The two teams went on a scoring binge in the final eight minutes. The Cubs held a 14-13 edge.
“Elijah Friederich, Tevin Strack and Chris Coronado played hard and gave us solid play,” Taylor said.
Strack fired in 17 points and had four steals. Friederich had seven rebounds and four steals. Coronado had five rebounds.
Josh Elder made four steals and Thad Wells dished out five assists.
Adam Colangelo had nine points for Eureka.
