Iola Middle School’s Weston Hines hits his golf ball out of the trees during the IMS Invitational golf meet earlier this season. Hines earned an individual medal with his play at Jayhawk-Linn Junior High’s tournament Monday in Mound City.

MOUND CITY — Weston Hines posted a 46 in a round of nine holes of golf Monday. That was good enough for the Iola Middle School seventh-grader to claim the seventh-place medal at Jayhawk-Linn Junior High’s Invitational.
The Ponies finished fourth in the eight-team field, one place out of team medals. Iola had a 214 team score. Chanute won with a 180 followed by Jayhawk-Linn at 202 and Independence at 208.
“The team played well. We have not had many opportunities to practice but we did a good job of competing,” said Dennis Nevin, IMS golf coach.
Hayden Wolf had a 55 for Iola and Aaron Barclay shot a 56. Trey Wilson carded a 57 and Joe Myrick had a 59.
