Golfers fare well

MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s golf team took third place Thursday in the school’s own invitational competition.
Marmaton Valley, with a team score of 367, finished behind champion Jayhawk-Linn High (338) and Pleasanton (346).
Individually, Uniontown High’s Justin Query carded an 84, good for fifth place. Derek George and Dalton Houk of Marmaton Valley also medaled, taking 10th and 11th, respectively. George had an 89, Houk a 92.
Jayhawk-Linn’s Alex Clark won first place overall after beating Colby Mc-Kee in a tie-breaker. Both players had scores of 76.
Others scoring for Marmaton Valley were Drew Stevenson and James Allison, both at 93, Jordan Wojenski, 95, and Rob McEwan, 96.
Also competing for Uniontown were Rich Rhoades, 114, and Chance Hoener, 137. Uniontown did not place in the team competition because it entered just three golfers.
“We had a beautiful day to play and some of the kids really took advantage of it,” Uniontown golf coach Jason Tourtilott said.
