Freshman Fillies struggle in home opener

It wasn’t the start they wanted to the 2009 season. Iola High’s freshman Fillies were looking to record victories at home Tuesday but came up short.
The Fillies had trouble getting untracked in the opener against Parsons. The Vikings won 25-10, 25-10.
Alexa Fawson has two serve aces and two kills for Iola. Alyssa Zimmerman and Katie Thompson each had a kill.
Play was better in the second match as the Fillies pushed Chanute to three sets. The Blue Comets were able to get the win, 25-18, 17-25, 15-8.
Fawson led the way for the Fillies with five service aces and seven kills. Breanna Stout had two aces and two kills. Thompson served two aces. At the net, Zimmerman put down two kills and Essence Owens had a kill.
The Fillies battled with Labette County only to lose 25-17, 25-14.
Fawson had three ace serves, two kills and a block. Thompson served three aces and had one kill. Zimmerman and Stout had one ace apiece.
Iola (0-3) travels to Chanute Tuesday to play the host team, Coffeyville and Fort Scott.
