Freshman Fillies lose two at home

Playing at home Thursday, Iola High’s freshmen couldn’t swing a win on the volleyball court.
They came close in their second match of the night.
“It was such a heartbreaker because we played so much better then we did against Louisburg,” said Casey Greenwood, IHS assistant coach, after the Fillies lost to Ottawa. “I’m proud of the girls.”
Iola won the first set against Ottawa 26-24 then lost the next two 25-11, 15-8.
Breanna Stout was perfect on the service line and served up 10 points, including three ace serves. She also had five kills against Ottawa.
Alexa Fawson and Katie Thompson had nine service points each. Fawson had five kills and Thompson had one kill. Alyssa Zimmerman served for six point while Tessa Rowe and Essence Owens each had four service points.
Louisburg defeated Iola 25-11, 25-12 to open the night. Louisburg beat Ottawa 25-18, 25-18.
Against Louisburg, Thompson served seven points and had one ace while Fawson had six service points and four kills.
Zimmerman and Rowe each served three points. Stout had four kills at the net and served two points.
Iola’s freshmen are at Parsons Saturday in a tournament.
