Fillies to host 4A substate

Postseason is fast approaching for area high school fall sports.
A couple teams get to stay home as hosts of postseason events. Most of the teams are on the road. Destinations were settled on last week after 2009-2010 school enrollments determined classifications by the Kansas State High School Activities Association.
Iola High’s girls go into tennis regional action Friday. The Fillies travel to Independence for the two-day regional tournament. The top six singles players and top six doubles teams advance to the Class 4A state tennis tournament Oct. 16-17 in Topeka.
Next up will be Class 3-2-1A regional girls golf tournaments. Uniontown High’s Eagles and Yates Center High’s Wildcats play in the regional at Fredonia Tuesday. Other teams in the regional are Caney Valley, Eureka, Fredonia, Galena and Pittsburg St. Mary’s-Colgan.
At each regional, the top three teams plus the next five lowest individual scores that are not of members of the three qualifying teams advance to state. The Class 3-2-1A girls state golf tournament is Oct. 19 in Great Bend.

Iola High’s Fillies have home court advantage for a Class 4A volleyball substate. Iola hosts its first volleyball substate tournament on Oct. 24. Two courts will be used in the single-elimination playoff tournament.
Coming to Iola will be Augusta, El Dorado, Anderson County, Prairie View, Osawatomie, Rose Hill and Circle. The substate tournament champion advances to the Class 4A state tournament Oct. 30-31 in Salina.
Southern Coffey County High’s Lady Titans are at home for the first round of Kansas Class 1A postseason volleyball action. Class 1A teams play regional tournaments to qualify for substate action.
Southern Coffey County hosts a 1A regional tournament Oct. 20 in Le Roy. The tournament will include Yates Center High’s Wildcats, a team that moved from Class 2A to 1A this season. Other teams in the regional are Hartford, Marais Des Cygnes Valley, Flinthills and Waverly.
Crest High’s Lady Lancers are in the Class 1A regional hosted by St. Paul. Also in the tournament are Altoona-Midway, Chetopa, Elk Valley and Pleasanton.
The top two teams in each 1A regional advance to a substate tournament Oct. 24. The southeast substate, which includes the two regionals involving area teams, is at Flinthills High School in Rosalia.
In Class 2A volleyball play, Humboldt, Marmaton Valley and Uniontown are in the substate hosted by Pittsburg St. Mary’s-Colgan High School in Pittsburg. Other teams are West Elk, Jayhawk-Linn, Oswego and Sedan.
The Class 1A and 2A state tournaments are Oct. 30-31 in Hays.

CROSS COUNTRY regional meets are Oct. 24. The state meet for Class 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A is Oct. 31 in Wamego.
Iola High’s Fillies and Mustangs will run in the Class 4A regional races at El Dorado Lake. The meet is hosted by El Dorado High and other teams in the regional are Labette County, Augusta, Chanute, Fort Scott, Anderson County, Girard, Independence, Mulvane, Parsons, Rose Hill, Circle, Valley Center and Wichita-Trinity.
Marmaton Valley and Humboldt are in the Class 2A regional at Sugar Valley Golf Course in Mound City hosted by Jayhawk-Linn High School. Other teams are Central-Burden, Burlingame, Chase County, Berean Academy, Mission Valley, Lyndon, Olpe, Peabody-Burns, Pittsburg St. Mary’s-Colgan, Maranatha Academy.
Crest and Yates Center are in the Class 1A regional at Cessna Activity Center in Wichita. Other teams are Burrton, Quivira Heights, Caldwell, Chetopa, Cunningham, Dexter, Hartford, Norwich, Pleasanton, Pretty Prairie, Flinthills and Udall.
The top three teams at each regional qualify for the state meet. The top 10 runners qualify for state with a possibility of addition individual qualifiers depending on team qualifications.
