OTTAWA — Iola High’s Fillies took on Louisburg and host Ottawa in varsity volleyball action Thursday.
Unfortunately, the Fillies weren’t able to put together the winning combination. Ottawa defeated Iola 25-17, 25-20 and Louisburg notched 25-17, 25-11 wins over the Fillies.
“We started with Ottawa early in the sets then they’d score four points and we weren’t able to push points to close the gap,” said Jodi Grover, Fillies’ head coach.
“We were just going through the motions against Louisburg even though we were staying with them. We didn’t have the intensity we needed.”
Iola got three kills and two stuff blocks from Jazmyne Honeycutt in the two matches. Shelby Greenwood and Kendra Taiclet had three kills each. Mindy Powelson had two kills and two blocks.
Lyndsi Faulhaber had 10 defensive digs while Taiclet and Powelson each had five digs. Kelsey Larson was credited with eight set assists and Megan Cook had five set assists.
The Fillies go into their tournament Saturday at 4-6.
Iola’s junior varsity played at Louisburg, going 1-2. See details on those matches in Saturday’s Register.
