Fillies’ JV wins two; Mustang JV splits

CHANUTE — Iola High’s junior varsity softball and baseball teams played against Chanute High’s junior varsities Tuesday.
The Fillies rolled to wins of 14-4 and 15-3. Leah Weir was the winning pitcher in game one, allowing five hits and two walks and struck out two. Breail Thompson limited Chanute to three hits, walked four and struck out five in game two.
In the first game, Lauren Toney had two singles and a triple while Megan Cook had a double and triple. Shelby Greenwood hit a single and a triple. Weir and Thompson each had a single and a double. Brandi Preston doubled.
Amanda Carr connected for three singles and a triple in the second game. Cook had three base hits while Preston and Greenwood had two singles each. Dominique Stokes singled.
The Mustangs junior varsity lost 9-8 in the first game. Corey Taylor and Jarred Latta pitched for Iola. Michael Anderson, Latta and Shelton Reno each had two singles. Taylor doubled. Clint Heffern and Jerrik Sigg each singled.
Sigg pitched a complete game as the Mustangs pounded Chanute 25-0 in the second game. Iola scored 14 runs in the fifth inning.
Taylor had four singles and a double while Anderson and Braden Larson each hit three singles. Hitting a single and a double each were Heffern, Sigg, Drew Walden and Latta. Reno and Kris Collins each had a single.
Iola’s junior varsities have a full slate next week with games at Anderson County, Independence, at home against Burlington and at Pittsburg.
