Fillies’ JV, others compete well in IHS JV Invitational

Iola High’s Fillies captured three gold medals in a strongly contested Iola High Junior Varsity Invitational Monday at Riverside Park.
“For both the girls and the boys, this was a junior varsity meet at its best,” said Marvin Smith, IHS head track coach. “Even the smaller schools withheld some very good athletes which allowed a lot of younger kids to score points.”
Along with junior varsities from Iola, Chanute, Labette County, Parsons, Coffeyville, Girard and Anderson County, there was a mixture of varsity and junior varsity athletes from Humboldt, Marmaton Valley, Crest, Pleasanton, West Elk and Altoona-Midway.
Katlyn Cleaver won the shot put with a throw of 31 feet, 11 inches for Iola. Hallie Wolf was eighth at 25’1”. Cleaver also claimed first place in the discus with a distance of 105’3”.
The Fillies placed three others in the discus. Kirstin McGuffin was third at 85’11”, Wolf was seventh at 69’2” and McKinley Ford took eighth at 68’11”.
McGuffin finished second in the javelin at 103’11” and Ty Ellis was fourth at 92’3”.
Maggie Wilson won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9’6”.
On the track, Abby Works took third in the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 53.82 seconds. Works combined with Jamie Spears, Kristen Linn and Autumn Snesrud for a second-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay race in 12:24.09.
Ellis was seventh in the 100-meter high hurdles in 20.16 seconds. She was eighth in the 300-meter in-termediate hurdles in 1:04.65.
Iola’s 4x100-meter relay team of Celeste Ambrose, Mulsow, Ellis and Spears was sixth in 1:01.16.

Marmaton Valley

Kelsey Brantley placed second in the 400-meter dash in 1:11.06 and second in the 800-meter run in 2:51.02. She also placed fourth in the 100-meter high hurdles in 19.32 seconds with teammate Caitlin Isaac in sixth at 20.11.
Isaac was seventh in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 1:02.83. Isaac combined with Christian Hartman, Lydia Lance and Mercedes Trollope for fifth in the 4x100-meter relay race in 1:00.
Lance was seventh in the 100-meter dash in 15.12 seconds. She placed seventh in the long jump at 13’21⁄2” and Trollope was eighth at 13’ 13⁄4”.
Trollope took third in the triple jump at 28’101⁄2”. Katie Holman was sixth in the shot put with a toss of 26’10” and Kelsey Vest was seventh at 25’5”.

Humboldt

Raquel Hill was a double gold-medal winner in the distance races for the Lady Cubs. She won the 1600-meter run in 6:20.9 and won the 3200-meter run in 13:33. Teammate Emily Durand placed fifth in the 1600-meter run in 7:38.89.
Darah Tinkler took sixth in the 400-meter dash in 1:29.53. Michaela Bartlett was fifth in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 58.95 seconds.
Desi Churning was seventh in the javelin with a throw of 78 feet. The Humboldt 4x800-meter relay team was fourth in 13:29.30.

Crest

Crest High’s 4x800-meter relay team took first in 12:00.92. Its 4x400-meter relay team was fourth in 5:08.15 and the 4x100-meter relay team took fourth in 59.25 seconds.
Italy Loving finished second in the 3200-meter run in 13:51.19. Ashley Catt was second in the 1600-meter run in 6:31.01.
Katrina Strickler was sixth in the long jump at 13’ 21⁄2”. She took fifth in the triple jump at 27’7”.
Amanda Strickler won the javelin with a throw of 107’10”. Shayla Stephens was third at 93 feet. Cassie Smith was fifth in the event at 89’9” and Caitlin Golden placed sixth at 89’7”.
A. Strickler was second in the discus with a throw of 93’1. Amber Tinsley took fourth at 85’10”. Tinsley was the silver medalist in the shot put at 28’11”.
