Fillies’ JV defeats Burlington twice

Iola High’s Alyssa Rouse has the pitch measured to hit the ball in Thursday’s home game against Burlington.

Iola High’s junior varsity softball team notched two big wins at home Thursday.
The Fillies’ junior varsity beat Burlington High’s Wildcats 10-0 and 11-2. The Fillies played at Pittsburg Friday.
Breail Thompson struck out 11 Burlington batters in the first game. Alyssa Rouse went 3-for-3 with three singles.
Shelby Greenwood had a single and a triple. Molly Riebel hit two base hits. Hitting a single each were Lacy Sigg, Brandi Preston and Dominique Stokes.
Lauren Toney was the winning pitcher for Iola in the second game. She had five strikeouts.
Preston connected for a double and a triple while Greenwood had two singles. Sigg doubled and drove in two runs. Thompson singled.
“The girls came out and played their game. We hit the ball well,” said Maria Hernandez, IHS assistant coach.
“Breail has come a long way from the beginning of the season from conditioning to pitching. Lauren has worked very hard and has adjusted to new pitching techniques.”
