Eagle teams sweep Jets

UNIONTOWN — Uniontown High’s Eagle girls and boys claimed Three Rivers League wins over visiting Altoona-Midway High’s Jets.
Uniontown’s girls jump-ed out to a 9-2 lead and never looked back Tuesday, rolling to a 46-22 win.
The victory lifts the Eagles’ record to 6-11 overall and 4-2 in league play.
Uniontown’s defense paved the way, limiting the Jets to 20 percent shooting, 9 of 46, and forcing 20 turnovers.
The Uniontown offense wasn’t too bad, either. Fourteen of the Eagles’ 20 field goals were accompanied with an assist, and Uniontown committed only 10 turnovers.
The Eagles led 21-8 by halftime and 32-12 after three periods.
Jacy Ermel led the way with 13 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks. Kait Spainhoward had eight rebounds and two steals. Tiffany Poyner also had two steals. Abbie Smith registered four blocked shots.
Uniontown also held a 38 to 25 advantage on the boards.
Kaylee Leck led the Jets with 10 points.
The Eagle boys downed the Jets 55-30 to improve to 3-3 in TRL play and 8-9 overall.
The Eagles were up 16-4 after one quarter of play and led 37-13 at halftime.
Travis Aikins fired in 20 points for the Eagles. Drew Johnson added 12 and Ben Dixon had 11 points.
Cody Tinsley tossed in six points. Scoring two each were Ethan Hammond, David Shank and Robert Kuns.
Altoona-Midway was led by Hunter Nunnenkamp with six points.
Uniontown travels to Crest Friday.
