Eagles stuff Hawks

UNIONTOWN — A healthy dose of grit and adjustments spurred Uniontown High’s Eagles to victory Friday.
The Eagles jumped out to a 21-0 lead over visiting Jayhawk-Linn High.
Uniontown saw a number of players go down to injury in the second half, but key contributions from reserves kept the Jayhawks at bay in a 21-6 win.
“I’m really proud of my kids,” Eagle head coach Chad Stroud said. “They really stepped up at the end. We had to shuffle some guys around just to keep 11 players on the field. We had a lot of guys in unfamiliar spots.”
The key came at the line of scrimmage. Uniontown racked up 195 rushing yards while limiting Jayhawk-Linn to 34.
Jordan Woods led the attack with 111 yards on 23 carries.
DuShaun Robinson got the proceedings going in the right foot by running back an interception 64 yards for paydirt and a 7-0 lead. Zach Travis pushed the margin to 14 points with a 27-yard pass to Ben Dixon in the second quarter. Ty Clayton scored the final touchdown for Uniontown with a 10-yard run in the third quarter.
The Jayhawks racked up 215 yards but required 26 pass attempts to do so.
Clayton added 54 yards on 11 carries for the Eagles. Woods led Uniontown’s defense with 10 tackles and a pick. Clayton added eight stops and Barry McAnulty followed with seven tackles.
Uniontown (2-1) travels to Frontenac next Friday.
