Eagles open track season at Oswego

OSWEGO — Kate Spainhoward broke her own meet record in winning the shot put event at Tuesday’s Oswego High Invitational.
Spainhoward’s winning throw in the shot put is 32 feet, 5 1/2 inches. She also won the discus with a toss of 92’2 1/2”.
Uniontown’s girls won their division title with 132 points. The boys were third with 94 points.
Jacy Ermel made it a sweep for the Eagle girls in the throwing events. Ermel claimed gold in the javelin with a distance of 81’7” and Spainhoward was second.
Ermel placed third in the discus and Emily Aikins was third in the shot put.
Uniontown’s boys did the same thing. Colt Bartlett won the shot put, 39’10” and the discus at 113’3”. David Shank took first place in the javelin with a throw of 143’3” with Bartlett in second. Shank was second in the discus and the shot put.
Barry McAnulty placed fifth in the javelin.
For the Eagle girls, Aikins won the 100-meter dash in 13.86 seconds and was first in the 200 meters. Kelsey Mathis was fourth in the 200 and fifth in the 400-meter dash.
Jessica Schaaf ran second in the 3200 and 1600 meter runs.
Abbie Smith was the gold medal winner in the 100-meter high hurdles in 17.78 seconds and took second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 54.42 seconds.
Smith won the long jump with a leap of 15’8”. Aikins was second in the event.
Uniontown’s Ben Dixon won three gold medals — two on the track. Dixon took first in the 100-meter dash in 11.71 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 24.42 seconds.
Dixon won the triple jump with a leap of 37’6 3/4”. He was second in the long jump.
In a non-scoring co-ed throwers relay, Uniontown was third. Members of the relay were McAnulty, Bartlett, Spainhoward and Shank.
