Eagles, Wildcats place in Crest meet

Uniontown High’s Eagle girls collected five gold medals and the Eagle boys earned three gold medals at Thursday’s Crest High Invitational track meet.

Unfortunately, no official results have been sent to other schools or to the Register by mid-morning. Uniontown, Marmaton Valley, Southern Coffey County, Crest and Iola High’s junior varsity athletes competed in the event.
For Iola High, head coach Marvin Smith said he did not have the results “but we were pleased to get the field events done since we lost nine team members to the (IHS) band concert as soon as the 4x800-meter relay races were done.”
Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall knew the placings her athletes got in events but had unofficial times and distances for first-place performers.
David Shank won the boys’ shot put and discus events. Colt Bartlett placed second in the shot put and fourth in the discus.
Ben Dixon won the 100-meter dash in 11.27 seconds, unofficially. He was second in the 200-meter dash and second in the long jump.
Uniontown’s weight relay team of Sam George, Bartlett, Barry McAnulty and Shank placed first.
Staying in the boys’ division, Marmaton Valley High’s Kurtis LaRue ran second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 44.12 seconds. LaRue was third in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.7 seconds.
Zack Louk turned in a second-place finish in the 3200-meter run in 11:15. Louk placed third in the 1600-meter run in 5:04.
Shawn Storrer finished fifth in the javelin with a throw of 138’8”. Storrer combined with LaRue, Skyler Houk and Jacob Conkling for sixth in the 4x100-meter relay race in 49.05 seconds.
Uniontown’s Emily Aikins was a double gold-medal winner on the track. She won the 100-meter dash in 13.02 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 27.6 seconds.
Abby Smith claimed gold in the long jump with a personal best leap of 17’ 1/2”. Aikins was third in the event. Marmaton Valley’s Lydia Lance took sixth at 14 feet.
Smith placed second in the 100-meter high hurdles and Kelsey Brantley of Marmaton Valley was fifth in 18.72 seconds. Smith was second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles.
Brantley turned in a fourth-place finish for the Wildcats in the 800-meter run. Her time was 2:48.07. Uniontown’s Jessica Schaaf was fifth in the 1600-meter run.
Another double gold medal-winner for the Eagle girls was Katie Spainhoward. She won the shot put with a personal-best throw of over 36 feet and won the discus.
“Our kids really had a good day competing on Thursday,” Hall said of the Eagle athletes. Uniontown was not in school today because of flooding.
Other results will be reported when available and space permits.
Uniontown, Marmaton Valley and Crest will be back in Iola next Thursday as Crest hosts the Three Rivers League meet at Riverside Park.
