PLEASANTON — Jordan Woods scored twice in the first quarter to boost Uniontown High’s Eagles to a 13-6 win at Pleasanton Friday night.
Woods scored from three yards out then Seth Sympson kicked the extra point. The Eagles’ next drive was finished off by a two-yard touchdown run by Woods.
“I felt we came out very strong and ran the ball well early. We jumped on top 13-0 but just couldn’t finish Pleasanton off,” said Chad Stroud, Eagle head coach.
“The kids played very hard and we were fortunate to get the win.”
The win puts the Eagles up 1-0 in Class 2-1A, District 7 play. Next Friday Uniontown hosts Northeast High of Arma in district play.
Pleasanton High’s Blu-Jays got a six-yard touchdown run from Dakota Kern in the second quarter. That was the end of the scoring for the game.
“We fumbled inside Pleasanton’s five-yard line with a few minutes to go in the game. It would have been nice to get that score and finish the game on a high note and ice the game,” Stroud said.
Woods finished with 75 yards on 20 carries. Ben Dixon made three catches for 74 yards.
Freshman quarterback Dakota Wiley completed 5 of 10 passes for 98 yards. He had two interceptions.
“Dakota did a great job making his first varsity start in place of injured sophomore Zach Travis. He was in a high pressure situation with a district game on the road,” Stroud said.
DuShaun Robinson racked up 12 tackles for the Eagles. Ty Clayton had 10 tackle. Tyler Hall had a quarterback sack and a fumble recovery.
