Eagle girls split TRL finale with Hornets

CHETOPA — Uniontown High’s Eagles had the chance to go undefeated in Three Rivers League play in 2009. But Chetopa High’s Hornets stung the Eagles in the second game of Monday’s doubleheader.
The Eagle girls took an 8-2 decision in the opener. Ithaca Marlier picked up her fourth win of the season on the mound. She allowed four hits, walked one and struck out two.
A four-run fourth inning propelled the Eagles to victory. Candice Clayton had three singles and four stole bases in the game. Heather Schnichels hit two singles and swiped three bases.
Marlier and Rayma Ridge each had a double and a single. Hitting a single each were Hope Jurgensen, Audrey Dixon, Julia Ayers and Tiffany Poyner.
In a 3-3 second game, the Hornets scored seven runs to take the lead in the fourth inning. Uniontown produced a run in the fifth then staged a rally in the seventh.
The Eagles scored five runs and had the tying run at first. A pop-up ended the rally, the inning and the game for Uniontown.
Marlier pitched four innings and got the loss. She allowed five runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Ayers and Ridge also pitched.
Schnichels delivered a triple and a single for Uniontown and Ayers had a double and a single. Clayton hit two singles.
Jurgensen tripled and Jessie Camac doubled. Marlier had a single.
Uniontown finished 7-1 in TRL action. The Eagles (7-6) have a non-league doubleheader at Yates Center Thursday.
