Eagle girls’ hold golf tournament

FORT SCOTT — Fredonia High’s Yellowjacket girls won the Uniontown High Invitational golf tournament Monday. The 18-hole girls’ golf event was played at Fort Scott Country Club.
Fredonia had a 443 team score to win. Anderson County was second with a 505 and Girard was third at 519.
Uniontown’s Eagles were fourth with a 528. Emily Simpson earned the fourth-place medal with a 107 (56-51). Yates Center High’s Emily Baker shot a 111 (58-53) for sixth.
Three golfers finished with a score of 99. Fredonia’s Tres Short was first followed by her teammate Melisa Ashenfelter and Eureka’s Brittney Shaw in third.
“I felt our girls did a good job for our first 18-hole golf meet of the year,” said Jason Tourtillott, Uniontown head coach.
“It’s great to see improvement and the girls’ excitement when they know they are getting better.”
Uniontown’s Veroncia Harrison finished 14th with a 129 (62-67). Brooke Murrow tied for 20th at 138 (71-67). Sabrena McAnulty (75-79) and Raven Hixon (72-82) tied for 31st with 154s.
Uniontown was without the services of its No. 1 golfer, Bethany Ericson, who was ill.
Yates Center shot a 550 as a team for sixth place. Maggie German shot a 123 (65-68) for 12th. Margie Hartwig had a 151 (77-74), Amber Jennings shot 165 (81-84) and Maggie Jennings finished with a 171 (83-88).
