Eagle, Wildcat girls compete in golf tourney

FORT SCOTT — Rain did not prevent the Fort Scott High Invitational girls golf tournament from being played Tuesday.
Uniontown High’s Eagles and the Yates Center High Wildcats played the soggy links at Fort Scott Country Club. Uniontown ended up sixth with a four-player score of 271 and Yates Center was eighth with a 282.
Caney Valley won the nine-hole tournament with a 205. Girard was second with a 217 and Chanute had a 241.
Bethany Ericson of Uniontown had the top finish for area golfers. She was 18th with a 62. One stroke behind her at 63 was Yates Center’s Emily Baker, tying for 19th.
Other scores for Uniontown were Emily Simpson, 65; Veronica Harrison, 67; Raven Hixon, 77; Brooke Murrow, 79; Sabrena McAnulty, 92.
Other scores for Yates Center were Margie Hart-wig, 69; Maggie German, 70; Maggie Jennings, 80; Am-ber Jennings, 88.
Last Friday, Uniontown High held a junior varsity tournament in Fort Scott. Uniontown placed second with a 280 behind Girard at 265.
Bethany Ericson was second-place medalist with a 59 for the nine-hole tournament.
Girard’s Madalyn Smith also shot a 59 but was awarded first.
