With their Nos. 1 and 2 starting pitchers throwing well, Allen County Community College’s Red Devils rolled for two more home victories Wednesday.
The Red Devils decked visiting Fort Scott Community College’s Greyhounds 6-3 and 12-3. Allen County improved to 19-11 in Jayhawk Eastern Division play.
Sophomore right-handers Jake Hosey and Brandon Faulkner provided strong performances on the mound in the doubleheader. Freshman closer John Michael Moore worked one inning in the second game.
Hosey went the distance allowing six hits and walking three batters in the opener. He hit three batters but also recorded seven strikeouts.
Allen County used its “small ball” play to defeat Fort Scott; mainly singles in each game and working the base paths to move runners around to score.
Two of the three extra-base hits for Allen County in the first game came in the first inning. Marcus Peavler doubled and Dillon Hazlett singled ahead of Josh Ward’s two-run double.
The Greyhounds got single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game. The Red Devils had a two-out rally in their half of the fifth to score two runs on four consecutive singles.
Allen County added two more runs in the sixth. Wyatt Hall doubled and with two out, Hazlett and Dutton had back-to-back RBI singles.
Ward had a single and a double while Peavler and Hall each had a double. Hitting two singles each were Hazlett and Dutton. William Reddick and Stefaan Jefferson each had a base hit.
Faulkner worked six innings, surrendering three runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out five in the second game. Moore allowed one hit and struck out two.
Michael Samuel had the lone extra-base hit, a double, for ACCC. He drove in two runs in a five-run first inning. Allen County plated four more runs in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Bretton Ater and Dutton each connected for three singles. Reddick and Ryan Herrig had two singles apiece. Peavler and Hazlett each singled.
Allen County (27-15) is at Labette Community College in Parsons today for a make-up doubleheader. The Red Devils host Kansas City, Kan., Community College Saturday.
