Crest athletes place

BURLINGTON — Taking on competition from larger schools, Crest High’s track athletes “held our own” according to CHS track coach Tisha Hug. Hug said she having several of the Crest athletes compete at Tuesday’s Burlington High Invitational was good experience and “will help them prepare for regionals.”
Amanda Strickler was the lone Crest girl to go to the meet. She finished sixth in the javelin with a throw of 101 feet, 7 inches.
Brandon Newton placed second in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.69 seconds, after running a personal-best 15.2 in the preliminaries.
Tanner Strickler had a season-best jump of 38’10” for fourth in the triple jump. Todd Johnston, coming off a hamstring pull, finished fifth in the long jump at 19’3”.
Brandon Newton, Johnston, Strickler and Bryan Newton combined for a fourth-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay race with a time of 46.5 seconds. The same four placed fifth in the 4x400-meter relay race in 3 minutes, 42.34 seconds.
