Crest, Marmaton Valley girls forge split in games

COLONY — Crest Middle School girls had a strong first half then held on to win 13-11 over visiting Marmaton Valley Junior High Thursday.
In the A-team game, Crest led 12-4 at halftime. It was 12-7 going into the fourth quarter and Crest scored one point while Marmaton Valley tossed in four points.
Erica Holman fired in six points to lead Crest. Maley Sherman added four and Paige Tush had three points.
Hannah Endicott had a game-high eight points for Marmaton Valley. Emily Meiwes had two points and Kaitlin Ensminger had one point.
“Defensively, we shut them down in the second half,” said Brenda Mills, MVJH head coach. “Our shots just won’t go in. It was a battle by both teams until the horn.”
Both Crest and Marmaton Valley’s A-teams are 3-7 on the season.
Marmaton Valley rallied in the fourth quarter of the B-team contest to win 26-19. It trailed 19-18 after three quarters of play.
Mackenzie Tynon scored 14 points for Marmaton Valley (6-4). Sam Root had four points. Scoring two points each were Cheyenne English, Tessa Olson, Chloe Lhuillier and Emily Boyd.
Crest (2-8) was led by Alayna Montague with 12 points. Karsyn Menzie had three points followed by Brooklynn Gray Lacross and Madison Covey with two points each.
Marmaton Valley will play in a tournament at Uniontown the week of Nov. 30.
