Burlington handles Yates Center girls

YATES CENTER — Yates Center High’s girls were blitzed by the visiting Burlington High’s girls 55-22 Tuesday.
Burlington dominated from the opening tip with a 24-6 first-quarter run. Yates Center found itself looking at a 38-12 halftime deficit.
Yates Center shot 21 percent, 6 of 28, from the field and hit 8 of 13 free throw attempts. The YCHS girls turned the ball over 24 times.
Taylor Heffern scored 11 points and had five rebounds.
The loss dropped the Yates Center girls to 4-15 overall. They go to West Elk Thursday for a makeup game to end the season.
They finished 1-13 in Tri-Valley League play. Burlington was the TVL champion at 12-2, 14-6.
For Burlington, Allyz Barnhart scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the first half. Heather Eddings chipped in with 11 points.
Burlington sank 12 of 26 free throw attempts.
Yates Center will play in the Kansas Class 2A substate hosted by Northeast High at Arma next week. Seedings and pairings come out later today.
