Bolin captures late model victory at Humboldt track

HUMBOLDT — Winning the race on the track is not all there is to stock car racing at Humboldt Speedway.
Friday night in the late model feature race, Shane Essary captured the checkered flag in front of Brian Bolin. But...
During a post-race inspection, technical in-spectors found one of the tires on Essary’s car to be too soft. It was an E40, when the softest legal tire is an E55. Essary was disqualified.
Bolin, who had held Essary off much of the race, was awarded the late model feature race victory. It softened the blow of a wreak in the modified feature after leading 11 of the 16 laps.
And it paid off down the line.
Rusty Skaggs moved to second place followed by Zack Simmons and Randy Zimmerman. Justin Hoepker climbed to fifth place.
In that modified feature, Bolin’s wreck created a restart. Justin Folk wrestled the lead away from brother Jesse Folk Jr. Bolin did stay in the race but finished third. Travis Smith ran fourth and Rodney Sigg was fifth.
Dalton Kirk fired off the starting line and never looked back to win the B-Mod feature. Rick Aiello had a solid finish at No. 2 with Jerry Kustanborder running third. Cole Becker took fourth and Johnny Green rounded out the top five.
Scott Stuart collected another factory stock win at the speedway. Jeremy Wilson finished second followed by Derrek Wilson, Jeff Cleaver and Ron Green.
Along with Humboldt Speedway’s three regular divisions — factory, B-Mod and modified — the Vintage Racers will be featured at this Friday’s races. Coupes and 1955 Chevys will be on the track.
