BARTLESVILLE, Okla. — Allen County Community College’s Red Devil women notched a victory on the road to open the 2009-2010 basketball season.
The Red Devils decked host Oklahoma Wesleyan junior varsity 95-60 Monday night. Allen County built a 50-21 halftime advantage.
Allen County was led by Dysyan Malone with 27 points. Breanna Shaw fired in 21 points.
Also hitting double-digit scoring were Jazmynn Johnson with 15 and Meghan Atchinson with 10 points.
“We had a solid effort in our first game. To win on the road in the first game with nine freshmen playing is big,” said Andy Hamilton, second-year head coach for the Red Devils.
Allen County has 12 freshmen on its 13-player roster.
Sophomore Jennifer House is unavailable to the basketball team until the ACCC volleyball team is out of the playoffs. The volleyball team opens playoff action Saturday.
Aeriss McNeese scored nine points while Miranda Mock had seven. Maurissa Shaffer added three points followed by Shayla Clark with two and Charlsie Bahret with one.
“We did some things right but we didn’t shoot the ball very well and we didn’t play defense as well as I wanted us to,” Hamilton said.
Allen County was 15 of 35 from the free-throw line.
The Red Devils travel to Eunice, La., for two games this weekend. They play LSU-Eunice Friday and Southwest Tennessee on Saturday.
Allen County’s home opener is Nov. 10 against Missouri Valley junior varsity.
