Allen County Community College’s track teams have been running with the “big dogs” the past two weeks. The Red Devil athletes were at the Ole Miss Relays April 11 and competed at the KU Relays this past weekend.
At Oxford, Miss., the Red Devil men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Jonathan Juin, Carlyle Thompson, DeAndre Simmons and Jean Frenot “destroyed” the ACCC school record. The foursome ran the race in 3 minute, 13.16 seconds for fifth place.
The former ACCC 4x400-meter relay record was 3:22.75 set in 2007 by Bryce Johnson, Josh Gomez, Chase Bradley and Philip Redrick.
It wasn’t the only school record shattered by ACCC athletes in competition at the University of Mississippi, their track coach’s alma mater.
Thompson ran third in the 400-meter hurdles in 52.48 seconds, which was better than the 55.01-second mark set in 2000 by Chris Jones. Thompson’s time and the 4x400-meter relay time were NJCAA national meet qualifying times.
Juin claimed 10th in the men’s 200-meter dash in 21.32 seconds. That lowered the ACCC school record, which was 21.64 seconds by Tom Crabtree in 1986.
Juin combined with Selwyn Tatum, Isiah Young and DeAndre Simmons to placed sixth in the 4x100-meter relay race at Ole Miss. The Red Devils’ time of 41.32 seconds was a new school mark. The old record was 41.59 seconds.
Angelica Larrier broke the ACCC women’s records in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at Ole Miss. She finished 16th in running the 100 meters in 12.05 seconds, which was better than the 12.44 seconds put on the books by Sharnita Benton in 2008.
Larrier was 22nd in the 200-meter dash in 25.18 seconds. The old mark for ACCC was 25.28 seconds set by Lisa Smith in 1994.
Postenea Louisjeune was eighth in the women’s high jump at 5’3”. Keythra Richards took 11th in the triple jump at 38’21/4”. Richards was 24th in the long jump, 17’4 1/4”, and Louisjeune was 20th at 16’54 1/2”.
Maresa Cueves claimed fourth in the 3,000-meter steeple chase in 11:0.1.98. She was 47th in the women’s 1500-meter run in 5:27.24.
Also at Ole Miss, Marwin Simmons took fourth in the men’s long jump with a leap of 24’1 3/4”. Nicholas Moore was 16h in the javelin with a throw of 130’9”.
Casey Canada took 12th in the 110-meter high hurdles in 15.10 seconds.

IN LAWRENCE at the KU Relays, Allen County’s Cueves placed seventh in the 3,000-meter steeple chase in 12:49.91. Richards took seventh in the women’s triple jump at 38’ 10 1/2”.
The ACCC men’s 4x100-meter relay team of Tatum, Young, Juin and D. Simmons was fifth in 42/14 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team of Juin, Thompson, Tatum and Frenot was ninth in 3:16.40.
Thompson qualified for the finals of the 400-meter hurdles in 53.35 seconds but did not place in the finals.
