ACCC softball team goes 1-1

Allen County Community College’s Red Devil softball teams muscled up for 34 hits in two games Monday afternoon. That included four home runs.
The Red Devils won an 11-10 slugfest with visiting Cloud County in the opener. They lost 12-10 in 10 innings in the second game.
Autumn Lamle delivered a two-run home run in a six-run third for ACCC in the first game. Kate Gibson had three singles and Terra Woods had two doubles.
Jordan Talley hit a double and a triple while Dana Stephenson and Shawna Blakesley had a single and a double apiece. Whitney Sullivan singled and triple. Kristina Popejoy doubled and Kassie Summers singled.
Brianne Campbell got the win, but gave up 10 runs on 14 hits. Sullivan got ACCC out of a two-on, one-out situation in the seventh inning.
Stephenson was 6-for-6 in the second game with five singles and a double. Lamle had a solo home run, a three-run home run and a single.
Chalice Schmollinger followed Lamle’s three-run shot with a solo home run to tie the game up at 9-9 in the bottom of the seventh. She also had a single.
Popejoy had two singles and a double. Talley and Blakesley each hit a single and double.
All that firepower couldn’t undo seven defensive errors by the Red Devils in the game. Sullivan took the loss, going the complete contest. She allowed 13 hits, walked two and struck out two.
Cloud County had a little punch of its own in the second game. Dani Beckman hit a three-run home run in a five-run fifth. Devin Choate hit a two-run shot in the 10th.
