MCPHERSON — Allen County Community College’s golfers wrapped up the fall slate of Jayhawk Conference golf tournaments earlier this week.
On Monday and Tuesday, the Red Devils and the rest of the Jayhawk Conference golfers played Turkey Creek Golf Course in McPherson. It was the third conference designated tournament. The conference has three more designated tournaments in the spring.
Hutchinson won the tournament team title with a total of 592 for the two-day, 36-hole event. Johnson County was second, five strokes back at 597.
Dale Middleton of Hutchinson won a playoff with Chien Hau Tan of Dodge City for first place. Both finished with a 143.
Allen County finished seventh with a 647. The Red Devils placed two golfers in the top 20 spots.
Rob Carlsen shot a 157 (78-79) to tie for 17th. Nick Agrew carded a 158 (78-80), tying for 20th.
“We were unable to meet our team goal of four scores in the 70s,” said Mike Hayes, ACCC golf coach. “We were close both rounds but just not quite there.”
Will Clark finished at 161 (82-79) and Bryant Welch was at 163 (82-81). Gavin Cole shot a 201 (103-98).
Hayes said as a team the Red Devils did not play the par 5 holes well and that was a big reason they did not score as well as they had hoped to play.
Allen County finishes the fall golf season Monday and Tuesday at the Kansas City, Kan., Community College Fall Invitational. It is played at Dub’s Dread Golf Club in Kansas City, Kan.
