A memorial service for Dale D. Snodgrass, who died July 2 following a massive stroke, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church, following visitation at 1:30 p.m. Burial service with the family will follow in Highland Cemetery. Memorial services will be in Bella Vista, Ark., Tuesday.
The Snodgrasses made their home in Bella Vista following his retirement from Monarch Cement Co., where he worked for 34 years. He retired as plant engineer in 1986.
A native of Ely, Kan., he moved with his family to Chanute and then Iola, where he graduated from high school. He and his high school sweetheart, Louann Stoddard, were married Nov. 3, 1946, following his discharge from the U.S. Navy.
Throughout his career with Monarch the couple lived in Iola, where Louann served as secretary to attorney Howard (Tony) Immel. They were members of First Christian Church where he served as deacon and elder and several terms as chairman of the board. He was a 65-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Shriners and took a particular interest in Shriners Hospital for Children, arranging transportation for children to and from hospitals for many years. He was also a member of the Rotary Club in Bella Vista.
Snodgrass’ second career was as a self-made architect. He designed more than 100 homes and an untold number of additions and remodels to existing homes. His formal education was interrupted by World War II. He picked up his studies again in the 1960s and won a degree from Allen County Community College in the mid-1960s.
The family suggests memorials to Shriners Hospital, 2001 S. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63131-3597; Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market St., Wichita, 67202; or Bella Vista Community Church and First Christian Church building fund in Iola.
