Sharon Coombs

Sharon L. Coombs, 61, Arcadia, died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, following a battle with cancer.
She was born Nov. 9, 1947, in Phoenix, Ariz., the daughter of LaVeen and Mary Maple. She married Gary Coombs on Dec. 22, 1998, in Fort Scott. She was a homemaker who enjoyed canning and various crafts. In addition to gardening, she also raised goats and chickens.
She is survived by her husband, Gary, of the home; stepfather, Robert Colborn, LaHarpe; a son, David Auxier, Kissimmee, Fla.; stepson Marc Coombs and his wife, Emily, Rogers, Ark.; two daughters, Annette Butler and husband Shaun, Woonsocket, R.I., and Lisa Watkins and husband William, Garland; a step-daughter, Bridget Coombs, Fort Scott; two stepbrothers, Bobby Wayne Colborn, LaHarpe, and Roger Colborn, Weir; and a sister, Annette (Toni) Antonacci, Olathe. She was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Haisten, and her parents.
Pastor Chris Bowman will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Cheney Witt Chapel in Fort Scott. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fort Scott. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Care of Kansas and may be left in care of Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, Kan., which is in charge of the arrangements.
