Phyllis Gumfory

Phyllis Doreen Gumfory, 64, of Iola died Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Allen County Hospital in Iola.
She was born Dec. 28, 1944, in Erie, the daughter of Clarence Edward and Vida Emil (Riley) Gambill. She grew up on farms in the Colony area.
On Sept. 5, 1961, she married Duane S. Gumfory in Iola. They made their home in Iola. She retired in 2006 from Haldex Brake Corporation in Iola after working there 30 years. Her husband died June 16, 2006.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Iola.
She enjoyed playing bingo and had been an avid bowler for many years.
She is survived by two sons, David, Iola, and Shawn, LaHarpe; a daughter, Charlotte Murry and her husband, Kevin, Gas; six grandchildren, Nicole Gumfory, Josh, Alex and Jake Gumfory and Andy and Griffin Chester; three brothers, Dewey Gambill and David Gambill, Iola, and William Gambill and his wife, Ilene, Coffeyville; a brother-in-law, Roy Morlan, Wichita; five sisters, Darlene Sparks and her husband, Bruce, Leavenworth, Patricia Sproul, Gas, Linda Johnson and Peggy Niemeyer and her husband, Sam, Iola, and Barbara Alumbaugh, Pratt; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
A brother, Michael Gambill, and a sister, Agnes Morlan, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Iola.
