Opal Chastain

Opal Ilean Chastain, 78, of Savonburg died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, at her son’s home near Mapleton.
She was born April 4, 1931, in Iola, the daughter of Isaac N. and Effie Bell (Vanderslice) Conner. She grew up in the Iola, LaHarpe, Gas and Savonburg areas. When she was young, she worked at the honey factory in Iola and for area restaurants.
She married Weldon Hall and they had five children before his death. She later married Don Chastain and they had two children before his death.
She is survived by a son, Howdy Joe Hall, Mapleton; four daughters, Pat Morris, Oswego, Dixie Hall, Truth or Consequences, N.M., Donna Doan, Mapleton, and Della Chastain, Elsmore; a brother, Dutch Conner, Lawrence, two sisters, Dorothy Aldrich, Washington, and Ruby Humphrey, Arizona; 23 grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Charlie Hall, a daughter, Betty Hall, three brothers, Alfred, Edward and Earl Conner, and a sister, Nora Conner, died earlier.
Cremation has taken place.
Private family inurment will be in Highland Cemetery in Iola at a later date.
