Nancy Flewharty

Nancy Powell Flewharty, 82, Iola, died Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Moran Manor.
She was born Feb. 22, 1927, in Iola, the daughter of J.M. and Ina (Melton) Powell. She was graduated from Iola High School and the University of Tex-as at Austin.
On June 29, 1948, she married Thomas W. Flewharty in Iola. They made their home in Midland and Dallas, Texas, Atlanta, Ga., Minneapolis, Minn., and New York City before returning to Iola in 1975. They owned and operated Flewharty’s Office Supplies for several years. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1995.
She continued managing her farms and received a Kansas Bankers Award for attention to soil conservation.
She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter L, Sorosis, Wesley United Methodist Church and supported the Iola Symphony Orchestra.
She is survived by a daughter, Molly Flewharty, Milford, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John M. Powell.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapels in Iola. The Rev. Steve Traw will officiate. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Friends of the Bowlus or Iola Public Library and left with the funeral home, which is in charge of arrangements.
