Mary Tate

Mary J. Tate, 69, of Iola died Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita.
She was born Dec. 30, 1939, in Neosho Falls, the daughter of John Ira and Ruth Mary (Smith) Vest.
On Nov. 7, 1955, she married Larry Tate. They made their home in Iola and he preceded her in death on Nov. 16, 1974.
She worked at several jobs but spent a number of years working for Country Lanes.
She is survived by a son, David Larry Tate Jr., Iola; two daughters, Rhonda Davis and her husband, Dallas, Parsons, and Penny Sanford and her husband, Adam, Iola; two half-brothers, John L. Vest and James Boeken; a sister, Dorothy Clary, four half-sisters, Betty Rice, Rebecca Scobee, Ruth Ann Shaw and Lucille Nelson; four grandchildren, Kenny Davis, Kristin Atwell and Cody and Seth Sanford; and five great-grandchildren, Trevor and Matheau Atwell, Landon Davis and Morghan and Braelyn McCarthy.
She was preceded in death by two infant sons, Christopher and Daniel; four brothers, William, Robert, John Jr. and George Vest; two half-brothers, Richard and Bradley Nichols; and a half-sister, Joan.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola. The Rev. Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Iola.
