L. Earl Smith

Former Geneva resident L. Earl Smith, 88, of Wichita died Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009, at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita.
He was born June 19, 1921, in Geneva, the son of Leslie T. and May V. (Miller) Smith. He graduated from Colony High School and Friends University.
He was married to Beulah Townsend. After serving in the U.S. Navy for three years he taught school for seven years and then worked at Beech Aircraft for 21 years. Later in life he was a greeter for Walmart stores in Iola and Wichita.
He was instrumental in starting Biddy Basketball in Wichita and coached hundreds of boys over the years. His passion in life was the distribution of Gospel literature throughout the United States and in several foreign countries. He attended Community Bible Chapel in Bel Aire.
He is survived by his wife, a son, Gary, and a daughter, Sharon Lindsted and husband, Robert, all of Wichita; eight grandchildren, Joy Ford and husband, Bryan, Daniel Smith and wife, Heather, Jill Daghfal and her husband, John, Joshua Smith and wife, Amy, Jeremy Smith and wife, Shenel, Pam Lindsted and her husband, Zama, Byron Lindsted and his wife, Lori, and Kyle Lindsted and his wife, Anita; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in Geneva Cemetery.
Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Community Bible Chapel in Bel Aire.
