Kathryn Eckroat

Kathryn Frances Eckroat, 95, of Piqua died Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009, at Allen County Hospital in Iola.
She was born Dec. 30, 1913, in Harrah, Okla., the daughter of Mike and Frances Ann (Pauli) Zawisza. At the age of five, the family moved to Choctaw, Okla., which is where she graduated from high school.
On Nov. 28, 1934, she married Edward C. Eckroat in Oklahoma City, Okla. Since 1943, they had made their home on a farm in Piqua. He died Feb. 24, 2003.
She was a homemaker, farmer, gardener and avid seamstress. She was active in her community where she was a member of Neosho Valley Family and Community Education Unit and held the post of the Democratic Party precinct person in Neosho Falls Township for many years. She was a lifetime member of St. Martin’s Catholic Church and St. Martin’s Altar Society in Piqua.
She is survived by a daughter, Loretta Andres, Iola; a son, Edward L. Eckroat and his wife, Janice, Piqua; a sister, Evelyn Eckroat and her husband, Ted, Midwest City, Okla.; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Raymond A. “Butch,” two brothers, Andrew and Leo Zawisza, and a nephew, Lee Zawisza, died earlier.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Piqua.
Parish Rosary will be recited at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Martin’s following visitation. Mass of Christian burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Martin’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery.
