John Daugherty

John William Daugherty, 70, of Kincaid died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at his home.
He was born Dec. 20, 1938, in Kincaid, the son of Warren J. and Eunice M. (Caldwell) Daugherty. He grew up in Kincaid and graduated from Kincaid Rural High School in 1956.
After graduation he joined the U.S. Air Force and served for 20 years. He served in Vietnam and was later stationed at Tacoma, Wash., and Phoenix, Ariz., before he retired as a staff sergeant in 1976.
On Feb. 15, 1969, he married Alice Ellen “Pat” Patterson in Omaha, Neb. Following his retirement from the service, they made their home in Kansas City before moving to Kincaid in 1981. She died Dec. 1, 2002.
He enjoyed owning and operating flea markets until his health failed. He served on the Kincaid City Council and helped deliver Meals-on-Wheels.
He is survived by a son, Darrin, Basehor; two daughters, Keela Katzer and her husband, Tawn, Kansas City, Mo., and Honey Whitcomb and her husband, Roy, Kincaid; six grandchildren, Kalynne, Andrew, Dayton, Brandon and Hayden Daugherty and Seth Whitcomb; and two sisters, Martha Chandler and her husband, John, Eudora, and Alice Stansbury and her husband, Ellis, Kincaid.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Kincaid United Methodist Church. The Rev. John Sheehan will officiate. Burial, with military honors, will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mildred.
