Jerry Hurlock

Jerry Leon Hurlock, 77, Iola, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola.
He was born Feb. 9, 1932, in Iola, the son of Harry and Alice (Blizzard) Hurlock. He grew up in Allen County and was graduated from Moran High School, where he played trumpet in the marching band and was an outstanding football player. He served in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany.
Hurlock returned to the Iola area in 1990 and worked as a lineman for the Rural Electric Association until he retired. He married Beverly B. (Forman) Tarter on April 9, 1998. They made their home in Iola until the flood relocated them to Gas.
He was a lifetime member of the Iola American Legion and an avid golfer, fisherman and softball player. He had a happy-go-lucky demeanor, loved life and people enjoyed being around him.
His wife survives, as do five sons, Ted, Denver, Colo., Danny, Carlsbad, Calif., Sam, Newton, and Kenny and Phillip, both of Las Vegas; a daughter, Mitzi (Hurlock) Solis, Santa Clara, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Stacie Sigler, Humboldt; the mother of his children, Colleen (Lincicome) Moore, Victorville, Calif.; two sisters, Beth Wiederstein-Thomas, Colony, and Virginia Cook, Tulsa; 16 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola. The Rev. Bill LaPorte will officiate.
