Jack Turner

Jack L. Turner, 65, of LaHarpe died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at his home.
He was born June 18, 1944, in Iola, the son of Orval L. and Marjorie (Feld) Turner. He grew up in Iola. The family moved to LaHarpe where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965.
He worked for Western Auto Store, William Brothers Pipeline and then for I.M.P. Boats before working as a self-employed mechanic.
On Dec. 15, 1989, he married Verna McCollam. They made their home on south Washington Street in Iola until their home flooded and they moved to LaHarpe. He was a member of the American Legion in Iola.
He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Marty and his wife, Marta, Olathe; two stepsons, Patrick Long, Gas, and Brent Long and his wife, Heather, Iola; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Mallette and Stephanie Gregg and her husband, Gabe, Iola; his mother, Marjorie Cantrell, Iola; a sister, Beverly Boan, Iola; a nephew, Roger Hoddy, Iola; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
His father, infant daughter, Dena, and daughter, Cindy Turner, died earlier.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Cemetery in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
