Helen Cannon-Brinkman

Helen M. Cannon-Brinkman, 74, of Parsons died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2009, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin.
She was born Jan. 14, 1935, near Neodesha to Leonard L. and Mabel H. (Steele) Lever. She grew up and attended school in Neodesha and then was graduated from high school in Imperial Valley, Calif. She was married to Ben Cannon on Aug. 18, 1951, in Springdale, Ark. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1974. She then married Gerald Brinkman. They later divorced.
Over a period of 28 years, she moved 64 times, finally settling in Parsons in 1978. She was a cook at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center until her retirement.
She loved reading and was addicted to jigsaw puzzles. She also loved her dog, Joker. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Parsons. She had been a long-time member of the Machinist Union and was a member of AARP. She also worked with Cub Scouts for a short time.
She is survived by a son, David Cannon, and his wife, Teresa, Parsons; two daughters, Ronna Howerton and her husband Kevin, Gas, and Donita Boone and her husband Kevin, Parsons; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Lester Lever and his wife Patty, Wichita.
She was preceded in death by a son, Steve Cannon, in 2005, and a brother.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 tonight.
