Geraldine Shields

Geraldine Naomi Ladds Shields, 95, of Mercer, Pa., died Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at Grove City Medical Center, Grove City, Pa.
She was born Feb. 5, 1914, in Franklin, Venango County, Pa., the daughter of William and Eva Belle Moon Ladds.
On Sept. 2, 1939, she married W. Arthur Shields. He died May 27, 1997.
She graduated from Grove City High School in 1932 and later graduated from Meadville Business School in Meadville, Pa. She worked for Talon Company in Meadville for five years. In addition to being a homemaker, she did occasional bookkeeping and clerking for small local businesses.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Iola and Zion Baptist Church, Worth Township, Butler County, for many years. She was a past matron, Order of the Eastern Star, in Columbiana, Ohio. She enjoyed music, reading, playing board games and knitting.
She is survived by two daughters, Sandra A. Yarian, Volant, Pa., and Sharon E. Rohlmeier and her husband, Lyle, Lawrence; two sons, Eugene F., Longview, Texas, and Joseph A., Ocala, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
A brother, William, and four sisters, Bernice Gwynn Whelan, Josephine Worley, Eva Agens Mackey and Jane Kirk, and a son-in-law, John Yarian, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Zion Baptist Church, Worth Township, Butler County, Pa. Rev. Thomas Meling will officiate.
