‘Gene’ Cheever

Earl “Gene” Cheever, 81, of LaHarpe died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2009, at his home.
He was born July 9, 1928, in Toronto, the son of Jay and Lydia (Anderson) Cheever. He grew up in Toronto.
He joined the U.S. Army and served two terms, the first in occupied Japan and the second in the Korean War.
On Aug. 22, 1950, he married Odessa Rogers. His employment took them to numerous communities. He worked at different jobs but spent several years on a bridge crew for Beachner Construction. He made his home in LaHarpe the past four years.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Danny, LaHarpe; three daughters, Brenda Fry, El Dorado, Cynthia Geisler, Piqua, and Kara Cheever, LaHarpe; four grandchildren, Jeremy and Justin Fry and Damon and Aaron Geisler; two great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Jerry Cheever.
A brother, Lonnie, and a sister, Peggy Kuffler, died earlier.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be at a later date in Toronto Cemetery.
