Fayma Vaughn

Fayma I. Vaughn, 86, Iola, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at her home.
She was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Mount Vernon, Mo., the daughter of Walter and Edna Creo (Hadlock) Garner. She lived in Mount Vernon and was married to Henry Yancey, who preceded her in death. She later married Tom C. Cornell and he also preceded her in death. She married Paul J. Vaughn and they made their home in Iola. He preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 1973.
Over the years Fayma worked as a cook in several different restaurants.
She is survived by two sons, Donny Yancey and his wife, Nancy, Iola, and Dennis Vaughn and his wife, Suzanne, Fayetteville, Ark.; two daughters, Norma Yancey and her companion, Dewey Gambill, Iola, and Mary Ann Garton and her husband, Glen, Kansas City, Mo.; a stepson, Russell Vaughn and his wife, Vicki, Iola; two stepdaughters, Betty Bowers, Pocahontas, Ark., and Billie Jo Verdot and her husband, Gerald, St. Louis, Mo.; a brother, Delmar Garner, Wheatland, Okla.; a half-brother, Robert Cantrell, Texas; 24 grandchildren; and a number of great- and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles L. Cornell, stepdaughter, Phyllis J. Vaughn, a brother, and three sisters, Vonda, Leona and Jean.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola, the Rev. Lloyd Houk officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery in Iola. The family will receive friends this evening from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.
