Esta Hodgeman

Esta Lee Hodgeman, 85, of Iola died Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at Windsor Place Nursing Center in Iola.
She was born July 10, 1924, in Rookins, Mo., the daughter of Otis Robert and Mary Effie (Clayton) Sheeks. She grew up in Missouri.
She married Charles Soverns. He died April 15, 1945 in World War II.
In 1950 she moved to Washington. She sang with a band and met Donald Hodgeman, a guitar player. They married in 1962 and made their home in Nevada, Mo., before moving to Iola where they operated a guitar shop until retiring in 2004. He died Sept. 28, 2008.
She is survived by a son, Charles Soverns and his wife, Kathy, Snohomish, Wash.; a sister, Donna R. Ussary and her husband, Don, Savannah, Mo.; a granddaughter; and four great-grandchildren.
A grandson, sister, Jean Nelson, and two brothers, Clayton and Larry Sheeks, died earlier.
Graveside services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Tom Bevard will officiate.
