Ernest Eggers

Ernest M. Eggers, 92, of Humboldt died Sunday, Aug. 16, 2009, in Pinecrest Nursing Home in Humboldt.
He was born Nov. 8, 1916, in Blackwell, Okla., the son of Henry Louis and Alice M. (Sewell) Eggers. He grew up in Oklahoma and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1934. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On Feb. 25, 1945, he married Katie Mae Bowling in Jefferson, Okla. The couple lived on a farm near Braman, Okla. In 1951 they moved to a farm north of Parsons and in 1958 to a home in Woodson County west of Humboldt. She died Jan. 3, 1973.
On March 17, 1974, he married Eula (Gray) Adams in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. They made their home on the farm until 1976 when they moved south of Yates Center. In 1996 they moved to Humboldt.
He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. He enjoyed camping and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Henry and his wife, Sandi, Yates Center, and Roger and his wife, Denise, Ozawkie; a daughter, Sue Poor and her husband, Ron, Anthony; a son-in-law, Kenneth Herder, Chanute; a stepson, Ernest Adams and his wife, Kim, Chanute; a stepdaughter, Janette Stoll and her husband, Terry, Chanute; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Margaret Herder, and infant child, a brother, Louis, and sisters, Gladys Quade and Alice Stewart, died earlier.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Humboldt. The Rev. David E. Meier will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Humboldt, Kansas
