Edith Rice

Edith Rice, 93, of Savonburg died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Labette Health Center in Parsons.
She was born Feb. 1, 1916, in Argonia, the daughter of Chester and Alta (Beebe) Baker. She graduated from Conway Springs High School in 1938, the only child of 10 in her family to do so.
On Dec. 23, 1936, she married Dale C. Rice in Conway Springs. He died in April 1996. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Stark, Extension Homemakers Unit, Ladies Aid Society and delivered Meals on Wheels in Savonburg. She also participated in Relay for Life, where she was the oldest walker in 2003.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Elder and her husband Don, Chanute, and Nancy Richwine and her husband Don, Stark; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Wehlage, Chanute, and Viola Griffin, North Newton; and two brothers, Charles Baker, Neodesha, and John Baker, Mayfield.
An infant son, Kyle Truman, brothers, Delbert, Chester Jr., Ralph and a stillborn brother, and sisters, Stella Calloway, Ruby Stam and Gracie Baker, died earlier.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Leanna Cemetery east of Chanute.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute.
