‘Bob’ Redfield

Robert Richard Redfield, 88, of Humboldt died Saturday, July 25, 2009, at Labette County Health Center in Parsons.
He was born Aug. 31, 1920, in Humboldt, the son of Gail Aronn and Lillis (Ernst) Redfield. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1938. After high school he worked at John Hatch clothing store in Humboldt until 1942 when he took over for his father as owner/operator of Redfield Auto Supply.
He served four years in the U.S. Army Military Police Corps mostly on the West Coast where he attained the rank of staff sergeant. He returned to Humboldt in 1946 after an honorable discharge.
In 1966 he and Edna Sterling were married. He sold Redfield Auto Supply in 1982 and established a small engine repair shop where he sold and repaired lawn mowers and other small engines.
He is survived by his sister, Margaret Mahaffy, Chanute, nieces, Lyn Burgess, Fort Worth, Texas, and Nancy Plotkin, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a nephew Jim Redfield; stepson, Merle Sterling; stepdaughter, Jill Sterling Beck; grandchildren, Kendra Weatherman, Layne Sterling, Jarred Sterling, Jonathan Beck, Eric Beck and Cara Beck; and six great-grandchildren.
His wife died in 2003, his brother, Elmer, in 1989 and his nephew, Tom Mahaffy, in 1966.
Cremation has taken place.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Humboldt.
